If you haven’t heard of Skillshare yet, where the hell have you been? No, seriously. Where. Have. You. Been?
Skillshare is getting a lot of attention lately. It’s no wonder really with over 700 free classes and over 7100 Premium classes! Even better, it is all at an incredible price that everyone can afford. Yes, even you.
You do not have to be a Premium member to enjoy Skillshare. So if you don’t have time to do a lot of learning right now and just want to check it out, there are plenty of things you can learn from free video classes at Skillshare. That brings us to reason number 1.
#1—A Wide Variety of Learning Experiences
- How to improve your writing skills
- How to cook/bake Chinese rice, fancy desserts, slow-cooker roasts, and much more
- How to knit, sew, crochet, patch, or embroider
- How to code in HTML
- How to build a website with WordPress
- How to be successful as a freelancer
- How to make money from home
- How to earn passive income
- and so much more!
The real treat is in the Premium classes. I’ve found that the free classes are mainly to introduce you to an instructor so you can see their teaching style and decide if you want to enroll in their Premium classes.
If at all possible, you will want to support Skillshare teachers by enrolling in a Premium membership. Skillshare teachers only get paid for students who enroll in their Premium classes, and after all, nobody can afford to work for free! As a side note, teachers get paid more if you leave a positive review and/or complete the project for the class, so you should always do both if you want good content to keep coming in!
The prices at Skillshare are quite reasonable. It’s pretty much the same cost as a membership to Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon Prime, but a whole lot more productive!
As you can see here, the monthly plan is just $12 per month, or you can save 33% by paying for one year in advance for $96 (which is only $8 per month). They even offer a 2 year membership for $144 which comes out to just $6 per month! That’s half price! Told ya you could afford it.
One of the things I really like is that Skillshare gives a free yearly membership to a student in their Scholarship program for every annual membership they sell! It’s a great way to give back.
Here’s one of my favorite member quotes from the Skillshare website:
“Basically everything I ever really wanted to learn is on @skillshare. Was my college education really necessary!?” -Brianna Phillips
I know what you mean, Brianna. Can I get a refund?
The community of teachers and students at Skillshare is truly amazing. Since I started I have been extremely impressed by the quality of people I have met online at Skillshare by participating in the June Teach Challenge, chatting with other teachers, and taking classes by other teachers. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.
I started with just a free trial membership (3 months for $0.99), and within a few weeks I decided I definitely wanted to teach. Getting started was easy with tips, tricks, motivation, and support from Skillshare staff, teachers, and students.
The new friends I have made have even helped me grow my social presence and earn more passive income. Which brings me to Number 4.
If you don’t already work from home, or aren’t independently wealthy, chances are that you are like the rest of us: you desire to earn money doing what you love, working for yourself. Skillshare can help you realize this goal. There are lots of different ways to earn money with Skillshare.
♥ Teach Challenges
If you decide you would like to share some of your knowledge with others, then a great way to start is with Skillshare’s monthly teach challenge. Each challenge starts on the 1st of each month, and ends on the last day of the month. Once you sign up for the challenge, you will receive regular emails that offer you milestones to complete certain phases of your class project by a specific deadline. If you meet all the milestones by their deadlines, and publish your class by the end of the month, you receive a $100 new teacher bonus! Would I lie to you? Rhetorical question, but if you’re wondering, no, I wouldn’t! Considering that Skillshare recommends classes that are under an hour (and as close to 30 mins as possible), this is a nice chunk of “cashie” for your wallet.
♥ Monthly Payout
Once 25 or more students have enrolled in your class, you become part of Skillshare’s Partner Program. That means that you’ll earn royalties every month based on the number of Premium enrollments in all of your classes. This is the formula:
Skillshare says that it averages to about $1-$2 per Premium student that enrolls in one of your classes. So let’s say you have just 50 students enrolled in one Premier class, that’s $50-$100 for about an hour of your time (based on a 30 minute video class). Of course, the following month you create a new video, and that class gets 50 premium students. Your first class (that you didn’t have to do anything with other than respond to new students who might ask a question or post a project), gets another 50 enrollments. Now you have a total of 100 new premium students enrolled between two of your classes. So the second month you earn $100-$200. And on it goes.
This is a very low estimate of student enrollments, by the way. Many classes have hundreds or even thousands of students. It will depend on how interesting your class is, how well you put it together (recorded video or screen-cast), and most importantly, on your topic. Often, if your topic is in a specific niche that only certain people will be interested in, then you will have lower enrollments; but choose a general topic that everyone wants to know more about (like making money online, passive income, etc.) and you could score thousands of new enrollments overnight.
In addition to royalties, you also receive $10 for every person you refer who becomes a Premium member. Right now Skillshare is offering 3 months of Premium membership for only $0.99. After the 3 month trial, the person can stay enrolled by choosing any of the pricing packages we talked about earlier, or they may decide to cancel. Even if they cancel, you still receive the $10 referral.
On the 16th of every month you will receive payment that is equal to your referrals plus your royalties.
In Conclusion. . .
Two of the classes I linked above are to a wonderful woman, Franki B, or FBK as she is otherwise known. She is a writer with several self-published books on Amazon, and has already made over $1,000 on Skillshare just in the past two months. She just started in June so this is excellent income for such a short period of time. She is proof that you can really make money on Skillshare and an inspiration to the rest of us. She has been kind enough to feature me in her blog with links to my website and my Skillshare classes. She is just one of the example’s of the great connections and friends you can make on Skillshare.
